Power Couples of the Renaissance by Jo Romero

30 June 2026 By Editor

uy Power Couples of the Renaissance by Jo Romero

The Renaissance was an age of rebirth, brilliance and danger. Across Europe and beyond, powerful partnerships shaped politics, culture, exploration and art.

Behind the triumphs of rulers, patrons and pioneers were the relationships that strengthened them – alliances that multiplied their influence and ensured their legacy.

This book brings to life ten remarkable duos whose combined impact altered the course of history. From Cosimo and Contessina de Medici, architects of Florence’s artistic flowering, to Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, whose union changed the map of Europe and the New World; from Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, immortalised in the Taj Mahal, to Pocahontas and John Rolfe, whose marriage reverberated across the Atlantic – these stories reveal the hidden dynamics at the heart of the Renaissance.

Drawing on letters, portraits, chronicles and eyewitness accounts, it uncovers how love, ambition, strategy and resilience shaped these partnerships.

Some couples ruled from thrones, others from behind the scenes – but together, each left an indelible mark on an era of revolution.

Power Couples of the Renaissance by Jo Romero is published on June 30, 2026.

There’s more new historical writing in Historia’s list of almost 170 books coming out this year.
